Made from Kingwood, with diamond parquetry and gilt decoration, this lovely late nineteenth century French Bureau de Dame arrived damaged by repeated exposure to sunlight over many many years. Sadly no photos were taken before work was started on it - but it looked beautiful when it was finished and leaves the workshop this week.

The job here was basically to get the richness of colour and depth back into the wood so that the parquetry could be seen as it was meant to be seen. Luckily one area of the bureau had been protected from sunlight, and so this was the benchmark by which the rest of the piece was slowly re-polished to its original, intended state.
